THE HOUSE
" Tharavad " is a wonderful, restored 100year old Heritage home set in a quiet, rustic village surrounded by lush rice fields located in the Granary of Kerala – Palakad district. This is the ancestral home of the Bagwaldas family who are now leading business people in the town. The house was built by the Patriarch of the family who was a money lender and landlord. It was closed down when the family moved to the town and has been renovated and restored to its original grandeur by his grandson Bagwaldas who has now made it his home.

The house is built in the old style and has an open central courtyard with plenty of beautiful carved woodwork – the entrance being a truly grand piece of work. The raised platform covered with colourful, old tiles in the front was where the old man met and conducted his money lending transactions and business.

Exploring the village, relaxing long walks & cycling trips along small, winding roads through an unspoilt countryside and paddy fields topped off with a visit to the local village temple to watch the evening rituals and pooja, are some of the interesting activities offered by your host. Further the " Parambikulam" Wildlife sanctuary being located just 2 ½ hrs away from Tharavad , makes for an interesting day trip while you’re here.

Activities :

Visit the local temple, where the presiding deity is Lord Siva. As this a family temple Non Hindus accompanied by someone from the house can enter the temple precincts.
Bird watching.
Leisurely walks & Cycling trips through the surrounding village and paddy fields
During Harvest time - take part in threshing the paddy and spreading out the grain to dry.
Day trip to the Parambikulam Wildlife sanctuary.
Bullock ride through country roads.
Visit to near by potter, Toddy tapping.
